Explore a new side of yourself from the ground to the air in Aerial Burlesque 101: The Series! From classic bump n’ grind, to neo, and everything between…baring to skivvies or just baring your soul - learn the foundations of combining two art forms. Craft of storytelling with a tease, with ground and aerial performance.

This accelerated series is for low-flying apparatus only— but you’ll learn how to create an act from the entrance to exit.

All genders, bodies, experience levels welcome, 18+ only. Participants will complete a code of conduct, waiver, and some light course pre-work. Homework is assigned throughout. Our primary goal is to create a safe space for participants both in movement and creation.

The series culminates in a private performance for fellow participants, and students will also receive a recorded video of their piece to use for future pitches if they desire!

Prerequisites

Students should be able to independently mount and dismount the apparatus of choice, and complete at least 3 moves at knee, hip, or chest height. You can schedule a private lesson if you are totally new to aerial in order to meet these requirements.

About the Instructors:

Ellie Cerceaux

Ellie Cerceaux first picked up a hula hoop in 2011 and hasn't stopped spinning since! Their signature style blends circus, burlesque, and their favorite fandoms into a spiral of sparkle. They have performed at Smoky Mountain Burlesque Festival and New Orleans Nerdlesque Festival. One time, they were even named “Not-So-Sexy” by Razorglam Productions, which they consider a compliment! Ellie flies high as a co-founder of Celestial Cabaret, a circus and variety collective where all bodies are celebrated as heavenly bodies. With humor and a knack for the unpredictable, Ellie twirls across the stage and into the hearts of audiences. Be careful! They will leave you dizzy and breathless.

Notes:

**space is limited to create an intimate nature with the classmates, no recording is allowed of other participants. Because we want all to feel welcomed and included- if you feel unsafe at any point please speak with the course facilitators or a third-party.

What to wear:

Due to the nature of aerial and being on shared equipment, safety garments are required that fully cover all bits. Pasties are required regardless of gender.
